The Pandemic & Deliveries
For many it may seem that the Pandemic is over, but the reality is that it's still very much here and causing chaos with global supply chains and the cost of goods - worldwide.
At Monroe & Kent Home we have worked hard to keep prices in check over the last 18 months by absorbing as much as 40% of additional merchandise and freight costs, without passing on any increases to our customers, however we wanted to share some insights on why things continue to be bad.
Bottom line is that there is a significant increase in the cost of raw materials, labor, manufacturing and transportation which has collided with a decrease in production capacity, the availability of containers (for merchandise made overseas), and the exorbitant increase in freight costs. - The global supply chain is extremely strained and its getting worse.
Our team are working hard to minimize the impact of these significant changes on our customers and we value patience and understanding where delays occur - we are as keen to get furniture to you as you are to receive it.
We aim to give you accurate ETA's but these can change as a result of circumstances beyond our control and we strive to update you as soon as we know.
We're very thankful that we continue to have a business. We know so many have lost so much over the last 18 months and despite all of the ongoing challenges, we're still standing!
Since the start of this Pandemic, consumers have been looking around their homes and spending substantial amounts of money on structural and soft improvements.
The nature of business today is that it relies on a global supply chain which operates on a "just in time" inventory model. This approach has worked seamlessly for decades, until it didn't.
Throughout 2020, the insane increase in demand for home improvement and home furnishings exhausted supply. Coupled with stay at home orders and ongoing outbreaks of COVID-19, factories have not been able to keep up with demand, freight companies are at breaking point from the volume moving through their networks and the cost of products has skyrocketed.
Supply chains are well oiled and meticulously planned, but the slightest fracture can bring it all tumbling down, as we have witnessed and continue to witness in most every industry including ours.
